CalAPA Pilot

At this time, the Commission has acquired sufficient participation in the CalAPA Pilot. Additional participation requests are no longer being accepted.

In the spring of 2017, the CalAPA will be piloted. The purpose of this pilot test is to engage stakeholders to collect additional validity evidence on the design of the assessment.

Commission-approved administrator preparation programs sponsored by institutions of higher education (IHEs) and programs sponsored by local education agencies will try out the leadership cycles and related scoring rubrics with their candidates by embedding the cycles and rubrics within existing program requirements. Participation in the pilot will be free for preparation programs and their candidates.

Pilot test data, including feedback from participating candidates, preparation program faculty, and assessors, will inform further revisions to the cycles and rubrics and the assessment process in time for a full field test of the entire assessment system in 2017–2018.

All candidate submission materials related to the pilot test will be kept confidential and secure. Pilot test results will not be provided to candidates by the CalAPA program. Administrator preparation programs should determine grades or credit for evidence submitted as a replacement for a course assignment.
