CalTPA Field Test
At this time, the Commission has acquired sufficient participation in the CalTPA Field Test with the exception of the following subject areas: Agriculture, Business, English Language Development, Health, Home Economics, and Industrial and Technology Education. Programs interested in field testing the CalTPA in these subject areas should contact email@example.com.
In 2017–2018, the revised CalTPA will be field tested. The purpose of the field test is to engage stakeholders to try out the updated assessment program, including updated instructional cycles and rubrics and online systems for registration, submission, and scoring.
During the field test, Commission-approved preparation programs (both student teaching and intern-based) sponsored by institutions of higher education or districts are asked to try out the revised CalTPA with their teacher candidates by embedding the cycles and rubrics within existing program requirements. Participation in the field test is free for programs and their candidates.
The Commission is allowing programs and their candidates to fulfill the TPA credential requirements by participating in the field test rather than by taking and passing a currently approved TPA. Interested programs are required to submit a request for a waiver of the TPA requirement and be approved by the Commission to participate.
Field test data, including feedback from participating teacher candidates, preparation program faculty, and assessors, will inform further revisions to the assessment program in time for operational administration beginning in fall 2018.
Note that the dates provided above are subject to change. This website will be updated whenever new information becomes available.
As the revised CalTPA is subject-specific, each candidate will participate in one of the CTC's credential areas:
- Multiple Subject
- English Language Development
- History/Social Science
- Home Economics
- Industrial and Technology Education
- Physical Education
- World Languages
All candidate submission materials related to the field test will be kept confidential and secure. Questions about the field test and field test participation should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
